Where did the time go?
It seems like it's yesterday,
When I was a kid.
Friends heard your stories,
Good friends know all your stories,
Close friends helped write them.
When it all goes down,
Technology hates seniors,
Somehow they can't win.
In her last moments,
Before the rainbow bridge called,
In peace, closed her eyes.
I showed up early,
By the time I got checked-in,
I missed my day's flight.
Everyone is gone,
Now the weekend is over,
Peace returns to my home.
Find your life's passion,

First generation,
Wearing my red, white and blue,

Time doesn't stand still,
It's correct two times a day,
Broken clocks still time.
The year is half done,
No turning back to replay,
Just moving forward.
Friendships are lifelines,
When all is sinking near you,
They keep you afloat.

Quiet is the night,
Pitch black, except for the light,
Expelled by each star.
No plans today,
No appointments or to do's,
Just enjoying life.
Traveling with my mother,
Seeing family and friends.
My life has been good,
There've been some bumps and bruises,
But overall blessed.
Gratitude expressed, Nor do any other words,
New memories made,
As we finish vacation,
We don't say good bye.
Memories aren't bought,
They are created with time,
Love and right people.
My only bad vice,
Portion control of good food,
Even healthy ones.
I barely handle,
Getting my day organized,
Then the day is done.
Being you, thank you,
Always being there for me,
When others walked out.
I hope as your friend,
I am everything to you,
As you are to me.
Pour a glass of life,
Savor your experiences,
Create memories.
For all I achieved,
I know my Dad is smiling,
From his heaven's perch.
I need time for me,
I'm not shy nor non-social,
People just drain me.
With ink all dried up,
My writing wasted a tree,
Said a professor.
Making memories,
To take my Mom on a trip,
A promise I made.
Priceless happiness,
Pay it forward and share it,

I did not choose this,
I take drugs to not get high,
But to stay alive.
No schedules or plans,
But not a day am I bored,
Where does my time go?
Start every day with
Positive affirmations,
On becoming you.
To my closest friends,
I don't have a million friends,
My few are worth more.
People come and go,
Throughout your entire life,
The right ones will stay.
The thunder rumbling,
Grumbling just under His breath,
At something we did.
Wondering what happened,
Large gray, clouds release its tears,
Streaming down earth's face.
My parents gifted,
Cancer, heart disease and more,
Please stop, I have no more room.
Not just a headache,
Its the stuff that comes with it,
Forces a time out.
Hard to be happy,
When you are just surviving,
Busy being strong.
I may look close by,
But I am miles ahead,
Catch me if you can.
I asked a question,
I'm waiting for an answer,
I don't hold my breath.
I don't know players,
Nor all the rules or standings,
I just like the game
No relief for months,Humidex above ninety,
Summer thunderstorms.
Where did my time go,
Years seem like yesterday as
Tomorrow gets near.
Be grateful today,
Sacrifices of lives lost,
Price for our freedom.
I often replay,
All of my day’s happenings,
Wondering, “what if?”
ABOUT ME, THE BLOGGER
Robert W Kovacs is a graduate with an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education from Broward (Community) College and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Public Administration and a Master of Science in Parks and Recreation Administration from Florida International University.
He recently retired after just over 40 years of service and his final position was the Payroll Administrator. He continues to astonish himself as mathematics just didn’t add up to anything exciting in his grade point average throughout both high school and college years. As long as he can remember his writing has always been a part of defining him.
The blog shares the form, syllable count and format of a traditional haiku but with a twist of themes being on life's observations and lessons learned as opposed to traditional haiku being based on a nature theme.
The author uses quick whips of daily events, humor and "a-ha" moments to capture his haiku.
Like his YMEJOURNEY blog, his writing brings you into his world as it offers him a catharsis, meandering through experiences of significant episodes of reflections of this ride on earth, that we call life.
Robert prides himself being an even-keel, grounded, educated and professional who appreciates simple pleasures in a complicated world. He enjoys more things than he doesn’t and welcomes being introduced to new adventures. In his spare time he enjoys traveling on vacations to see more of this world, a diverse genre of movies and TV, reading mostly biographies and fiction, listening to almost all genres of 80s music, board games/Wii, beach/pool, bicycling, parks, cooking and eating, relaxing and thought provoking conversations with quality time with genuine people. Presently, his primary coordinates are approximately 26.0523° N, 80.1439° W, on Spaceship Earth.
WHY HAIKU?
2024 Daily Challenge - Haiku!
I belong to a writing club and our facilitator (friend) gave us a challenge to take on 01.01.24.
I was challenged by this friend to use one style of writing and post every day a learned lesson of life or a positive affirmation every day of 2024. The writing style must remain the same for the duration of the challenge. All free form writing that is anything but narratives (poems, limericks, sonnets, etc) less than 1000 words must post daily while narratives exceeding 2500 words once a week. Anything in between at least 3 times a week. You must keep all grammatical, syntax, rhyming and syllable counts but can vary on themes and content.
I wimped out on the second part of the challenge as I picked Haiku as my writing style as it was simple.
A haiku is a Japanese poem of three lines consisting of 5, 7 and 5 syllables respectively. Typically, covering images of nature but I’ll take my spin on it for this challenge.
I like to write about my life’s observations, lessons learned and self affirmations as I try to find my way through a complicated world.
Eventually, they’ll make it to my blog but for now here’s my attempt at a haiku a day for 365 days enjoy my Nuts, Bolts and Everything Else.
